"Class" Classic Ford
High speed action from two classic British rallies, presented by Dickie Davies and featuring legends including Roger Clark, Timo Makinen, Russell Brookes, Tony Pond, Stig Blomqvist and more!
Rally ‘75 brings together two gems from the film archives of Ford, showing some of the greatest names in rallying in action on the most demanding special stages in the world. The rare archive footage transports you back to 1975 to witness the extraordinary International Scottish Rally and the history-making RAC Rally.
The ‘75 Scottish Rally saw Roger Clark and Timo Makinen go head-to-head in Ford Escorts over 1,000 miles of the most demanding terrain in rallying. The pair would face stiff challenges not only from the Lancia Stratos of Per-Inge Walfridsson, but also from in-form up and coming Brits Tony Pond and Russell Brookes. Archive footage shows you the cars at speed, power sliding and roaring through the Scottish Highlands, plus interviews with the stars as you watch a dramatic event unfold. Sadly, there is no film of the final few miles of this amazing rally, but the surviving footage leaves you in no doubt this was a classic encounter.
The action moves to the legendary RAC Rally for the second film, as Makinen bids for a third win in a row on an event widely regarded as one of the toughest rallies in the world. After the challenge from early leader Bjorn Waldegard in the Stratos faded, it became a straight fight between the Escorts of Makinen and Clark and the Saab of Stig Blomqvist. This wonderful film follows the action around Britain as a enthralling battle unfolds, right through to the final stages, where Clark was right on the limit in a desperate bid to snatch victory from Makinen. We also see, and hear from, many of the rising British stars who would go on to become legends in the sport, including Pond and Brookes.
TV legend Dickie Davies is our guide through both of these events, his enthusiasm for the sport making two unmissable films even more enjoyable.
"To anyone whose formative years were the 1970s, the sight of Dickie Davies instantly conjure simages of World of Sport. Here the great man is packing some mean muttonchops and killer rollnecks as he takes us through all the action of the 1975 Scottish Rally and that year's RAC classic. The footage is great - we particularly enjoyed seeing The Chequered Flag Lancia Stratos in action and Timo Makinen not letting a broken sump get in the way of him recording an RAC hat-trick. If you like your cars painted lime-green or orange, you'll love this" Octane
"Duke unearth yet more gems from Ford's film archive with this two-film DVD featuring the 1975 Scottish Rally and RAC Rally. Watch Roger Clark and Timo Makinen take on the Lancia Stratos invasion in their RS1800s. Class" Classic Ford
